Presentation by Evan Brody (he/they). Brody is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Kentucky, as well as an affiliated faculty member with the Department of Gender & Women’s Studies. He received his Ph.D. in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on media, sport culture, and LGBTQ+ communities and uses a variety of qualitative methods to better understand the relationship between media practices and the experiences and representations of LGBTQ+ athletes and sports fans. In addition to his academic appointment, he consults for entertainment companies, such as ABC, NBC/Universal, Paramount, and The SEC Network, providing cultural and qualitative data collection and analysis for a range of media-based and consumer goods projects. His academic research has been published in outlets such as The Journal of Sport and Social Issues and The Journal of Homosexuality and he has forthcoming research in Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies and The International Journal of Communication.
