Certified Peer Educators (CPEs) facilitate bystander intervention and violence prevention workshops (e.g., healthy relationships, consent education and sexual violence prevention) to promote awareness and make a difference at the University of Iowa. Certified Peer Educators are responsible for promoting a campus culture that educates and empowers Hawkeyes to be active bystanders and end violence. Upon completion of the required 20 hours of training and certification process, Certified Peer Educators are eligible to receive a $1000 stipend per academic year. 

The application for the 2026-27 program opens on April 1 and will remain open until all positions are filled.

Priority deadline: April 20, 2026. 

Responsibilities

  1. Co-facilitation of student violence prevention workshops alongside other peer educators
  2. Assist in building relationships with various campus partners and student groups
  3. Serve as an engaging, effective communicator who facilitates meaningful discussions with peers on challenging topics
  4. Demonstrates dependability, responsibility and transparency through attendance and communication when conflict arises
  5. Complete 20 hours of Certified Peer Educator training
  6. Attend weekly meetings for continuing education, team building and ongoing support

Qualifications

  1. Currently enrolled at the University of Iowa in a degree-seeking program
  2. Interest and/or experience in providing educational programs focused on dating violence, sexual assault, and bystander intervention
  3. Interest and/or experience in public speaking, group facilitation, and oral communication—or a willingness to learn
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups while appreciating the unique contributions of all
  5. Interest and/or experience working with other college students, student organizations, or community groups
  6. Excellent organizational, time management, and verbal/written communication
  7. Evening and weekend availability
