Violence Prevention Program Coordinator
Biography

Sumi is a Violence Prevention Program Coordinator at the Women’s Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa.  In this role, Sumi designs, coordinates, and implements gender and sexual violence prevention programming for individuals throughout the University of Iowa campus and the greater Iowa City community.  This includes facilitating trainings and workshops on topics such as bystander intervention, identity-based harm prevention, consent, healthy relationships, and dismantling rape culture; providing consultation on policy implementation and campus programming; and developing outreach to expand community involvement in violence prevention efforts.  In addition, Sumi directs the organization of the annual Iowa City Take Back the Night march and rally to increase awareness and provide support for survivors of sexual assault.

Prior to beginning this role, Sumi served as the Operations Coordinator at WRAC and as a Direct Services Advocate through the Rape Victim Advocacy Program.  She previously earned her Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Iowa and received certification as a Victim Counselor to provide trauma-informed, confidential advocacy services to individuals impacted by violence and discrimination.

Sumi is passionate about advocating for sexual assault survivors, mental health awareness, reproductive justice, and voting rights.  In her free time, Sumi enjoys travelling, reading, going on coffee runs, and spending time with friends and family.
