Asst Director / Violence Prevention

Martha is the Assistant Director and Violence Prevention Program Coordinator at the Women’s Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa. At WRAC, Martha’s responsibilities include overall coordination of violence prevention work; providing consultation and coaching to individuals and units across campus on violence prevention education strategies; overseeing assessment and evaluation of prevention education; researching and developing curriculum; preparation of proposals and oversight of external and/or special funding for violence prevention; and the direction of WRAC’s new Certified Peer Educator program. In addition she provides trainings and workshops on bystander intervention, consent, healthy relationships and rape culture. 

 

Martha holds degrees in Sociology from Austin College (B.A.) and Indiana University (M.A.) and has experience working both in the field of domestic violence, as Shelter Coordinator and then Volunteer Coordinator at DVIP in Iowa City, and in higher education as an Academic Advisor, Teaching and Research Assistant, and student organization president. Martha is a certified Domestic Violence Advocate and a certified trainer through the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  Martha holds a long-standing commitment to advocating for gender equity.
